Matt Groenendyk of Lovilia has been hired as a new Monroe County grader operator.
Norman Majors, son of Marty Majors of Lovilia, an employee at Pella Corp., was one of ten finalists for a Toon Kuyper Farver Spirit Award. He was awarded $2500 to give to his favorite charity. He donated it to the Welcome Home Soldier Memorial.
Joe Welsh and Brad Stalzer of Lovilia with other Knights of Columbus of Albia served pizza to special students and adults at the K of C building in Albia. It is an annual event.

Little Free Library Opens in Lovilia
You can now leave a book and take a book from the library at 1201 E Avenue South in the yard of David and Susan Beary. There are picture books for preschoolers and beginning readers, books for elementary kids, teens, and adults. Leave a note if you want a certain book and Susan will try to find it. Enjoy reading all year long!

Over 75 Lovilia alumni came for lunch and visiting with former classmates. It was a fun day full of memories.
June 19th Poetry Hour
Davis County poet, Frances McCarty, read her original poetry to five guests. Then guests shared a poem they had brought with them. This was a free program paid for by a Monroe County Foundation Grant to Lovilia Community Betterment. Guests sharing the evening of written word were Goldie Kraber, Doyle Chamberlain, Susan Beary, Val Tews, and Stephen Tews. Frances’ poems capture the ups and downs of life on a farm and the tough times and the humor of those days.
Camilla Ann Wynn Passed Away June 19, 2018
Camilla, age 79, died at Monroe County Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on June 18, 1939 in Monroe County to Ambrose and Catherine (Heland) Kearney. Camilla went to Eldorado Country School and graduated from Lovilia High School with the class of 1956. She was married to Jerry Wynn on May 21, 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic church. They were blessed with four children: Jim, David, Marc, and Susan.
Camilla graduated from St. Joseph’s Nursing School in Ottumwa in 1959. Camilla worked at Monroe County Hospital for 37 years and then part time at Oakwood Nursing and Rehab.for two years. Her compassion and generous spirit touched so many through all those years.
Camilla was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Weller and later at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lovilia. She enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren in athletics.
Camilla is survived by her husband; son Jim (Brenda) Wynn of Albia,son David (Michelle) Wynn of Albia, son Marc (Jill) Wynn of Lovilia, and daughter, Susan (Kirk) McAninch of Lovilia. Also grandchildren and great grand children. She is also survived by her siblings: Mike (Donna) Kearney of Newton, Vicki Kearney of Eldridge, Tommy Kearney of South Carolina, John (Gale) Kearney of Ames, Mary Jo (Jeff) Parrott of Marshalltown, and Pat (Julie)Kearney of Chariton.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lovilia with Father Mark Yates officiating, assisted by Father Michael Volkmer and Deacon Edwin Kamerick. Burial will follow services in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Weller.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 1-8 p.m. with her family present to greet friends. There will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service held at 6:30 p.m. at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia.
Memorials may be directed to the Monroe County Hospital or the Albia High School Clay Target Program.
May she rest in peace.
June 28, Thursday, Manners Class
Manners class will be at 6 p.m. at the Lovilia Community Building for adults or kids five years old or older. The class will include proper table settings, table manners, and properly introducing people. All materials are furnished and the class is free due to the arts grants from Monroe County Foundation. Presenter will be Susan Beary. Please call her 641-946-7952 to enroll in the class so she has enough handouts ready. She will all so give fun facts from the butler to English royalty from his book on etiquette at the table. Call now to enroll.
July 10, Tuesday, Gun Safety and Permit to Carry Training Class
Cost is usually $60 per person but with the Monroe county Foundation grant paying half the cost, we hope all who want this class can afford the $30 fee.
A child may attend if accompanied by a paying adult. The class will be 2 1/2 hours long and begins at 6 p.m.

July 19, Lovilia Community Betterment Fundraising Supper
This supper’s proceeds will support the upkeep of the community building. We will be serving from 5-7 p.m The menu is pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, variety of homemade salads, and homemade cookie bars and cherry, apple, peach and rhubarb crisp desserts. Cost for adults is $10 each, kids 12 and younger $7, and kids three years and younger free. Come have a great home cooked meal and support our Community building too.
