Twenty seven guests enjoyed the string concert while nibbling on cookies and drinking tea or fruit punch. The four musicians were Dan Walker on cello, Linda Hoskins-violin, Joan Peterson-violin, and Joe Starcevic- violin.
They played classical as well as a song from “The Sound of Music” and a Disney hit “When You Wish Upon a Star”. All mellow and special. We appreciate the musicians taking their time to practice, rewrite some music , and perform for us. One guest asked me how soon we could do it again. Another said, not my kind of music but it was interesting.
The good things was we stretched our musical envelope. Thanks to all who came.
Lovilia Water Color Painting Classes
Monroe County Foundation arts grant to Lovilia Community Betterment enables us to have beginner water color classes every Tuesday in September at 7 p.m.
Classes will be held at the Lovilia Community Building and taught by Juana Plum who has been through many classes and taught classes. All supplies are furnished free by the grant.
She has all the spots taken but three. If you want to be in the class , call 641-946-7952 to Susan Beary to register. You must sign up before the first class Sept. 4th.
Lovilia Book Lovers Come to Lovilia Sept. 13
On Sept. 13 Susan Beary will hand out the book ” Joan of Arc” authored by Mark Twain. Have you ever heard of it? No, of course not. It is unique and when he first published he used another pen name because he thought the readers expected a comedy and would not like it.
The book is free by the arts grant that also paid for the painting classes. But we have only seven, yes ,seven books left. So call Susan at 641-946-7952 to reserve one.
You must attend Sept. 13 at the Lovilia Community Building at 6 p.m. to be introduced to the book and to take it home to read and then come back on Oct. 11th at 6 .m. to discuss it with other book lovers.
If you love to read, and you like Mark Twain, you will not be disappointed. He got my attention when I learned he spent 12 years in France and England researching and then spent 2 years writing this book. I have not spent that much time on one project, have you? So that lured me in to read it. You will be intrigued and entertained by it.
